Tapp City Park Sports Center

The citizens of New Boston are extremely proud of our Sports Center which contains eight modern baseball fields.
This Sports Center hosts many state baseball and softball tournaments. A very active youth sports association manages these facilities and approximately 1500 children are engaged in softball, baseball, soccer, basketball and football on a year round basis.
Also located in this city park are the girl scout and boy scout facilities which have excellent leadership and support in our town.
The park is a convenient and well used site for family get-together, swimming and walking on the walking trail which follows a beautiful path through the trees.

T & P TrailHead Park

T & P Trailhead Park got its name from Texas and Pacific Railroad.  The property that T & P sets on is the old railroad that originally came through back in the 1870's!  When the city bought the property in the past 10 years, the city decided to name the Park after the railroad; thus the name- T & P Trailhead Park.  What started as just an old grassy area has turned into a huge success. T & P Pavilion is a 50' x 100' pavilion that is 44' tall, it is also where we hold our music concerts during Pioneer Days and other events!  T & P Midway is across from the Pavilion and has approximately 200' of asphalted drive with electrical boxes and lots of grassy area to hold other events!!  On the back side of the Pavilion is the T & P Gazebo that is outlined by an asphalt walk with beautiful Victorian lights, benches and picnic tables and soon to be, gardens!!  We have already had a few people use the gazebo for weddings. Any part of the Park may be rented for a family reunion, wedding or other outing. (Contact 903.628.2581)

SCOTT JOPLIN MURAL
311 Main Street

Check out the Scott Joplin Mural! This unique landmark is a colorful, outdoor mural that depicts the life and accomplishments of the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and area native, Scott Joplin. The mural also features accurate musical notes of the final measures of Joplin's famous song, The Entertainer. This catchy tune stirred a revival of interest in ragtime music. The mural is located on the south wall of the building at 311 Main St. near the Perot Theatre.

HISTORIC PEROT THEATRE
219 Main Street, (903) 792-4992

Marvel at the Perot Theatre located in downtown Texarkana. The theatre is a jewel in the region, bringing the best of Broadway, classical music, ballet, jazz, modern dance and more to Texarkana. First opened in 1924 as the Saenger Theatre, Emil Weil’s Italian Renaissance design is an architectural marvel. Through the generosity of native son H. Ross Perot, his sister Bette Perot, and area residents, the beautiful old theatre was saved and restored into one of the nation’s major performing arts centers. Throughout the year, the Perot Theatre Series brings national and international productions to the region.

The photo of the Orchestra and Balcony Boxes shows the intricacy of the plaster and design features that adorn this beautiful theatre. The theatre is on the National Register of Historic Places.

To schedule a tour, call the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council (TRAHC), (903) 792-8681.

REGIONAL ARTS CENTER
4th & Texas Boulevard, (903) 792-8681

The beautifully renovated Regional Arts Center originated in 1909 as a United States District Courthouse. The old courtroom is now a grand hall with a 26-foot-high ceiling. National touring art exhibitions grace gallery walls twelve months a year, and the halls ring out when the rolls are playing on the unique reproducing player piano. The building is an example of Classical Revival architecture featuring ornate plaster, a copper cage elevator, and a grand hall with a 26 foot ceiling. Today the Center serves as the focal point for the visual arts and houses the only art museum in the region featuring national touring, juried and invitational exhibitions. The year-round programming also includes classes, lectures, workshops, film series and tours. Also inside the Center is the “For Arts Sake” Gift Shop filled with unique gifts. Not to be missed!
